2026 African American Heritage Celebration - February 26, 2026
On February 26, 2026, the Louisiana Middle District Court held its 31st annual African American Heritage Program. The program themed “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” featured Tisha Powell as the keynote speaker. Selections were performed by musical guest, Jhamarrick Campbell. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick, Judge Brian A. Jackson, Judge John W. deGravelles, Magistrate Judge Richard L. Bourgeois, Magistrate Judge Erin Wilder-Doomes, and Magistrate Judge Scott D. Johnson of the United States District Court; Judge Michael A. Crawford of the United States Bankruptcy Court; and the agencies of the Middle District of Louisiana federal courthouse hosted the event. 2025 African American Heritage Celebration – February 6, 2025
On February 6, 2025, the Louisiana Middle District Court held its 30th annual African American Heritage Program. The program’s theme, “Geography of Opportunity” was presented by LSU President William F. Tate IV. Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick, Judge Brian A. Jackson, Judge John W. deGravelles, Magistrate Judge Richard L. Bourgeois, Magistrate Judge Erin Wilder-Doomes, and Magistrate Judge Scott D. Johnson of the United States District Court; Judge Michael A. Crawford of the United States Bankruptcy Court; and the agencies of the Middle District of Louisiana federal courthouse hosted the event. 2024 African American Heritage Celebration – February 29, 2024
Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick, Judge Brian A. Jackson, Magistrate Judge Richard L. Bourgeois, and Magistrate Judge Scott D. Johnson of the United States District Court; Judge Michael A. Crawford of the United States Bankruptcy Court; and the agencies of the Middle District of Louisiana federal courthouse hosted the 29th annual African American Heritage Celebration on February 29, 2024. The featured speaker, Museum Educator and Public Programs Manager with the LSU Museum of Art, Mr. Brandon V. Lewis was the keynote speaker. This year’s theme was Radiance in Darkness: Illuminating Black Creativity.” Musical selections were performed by Arthur and Friends Community Choir. Students from Belaire Magnet High School Army JROTC Color Guard were also in attendance. 2023 African American Heritage Celebration – February 28, 2023
The U.S. District Court Family in the Middle District of Louisiana held its twenty-eighth annual African American Heritage Celebration on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Russell B. Long Federal Building and United States Courthouse. The keynote speaker was retired state judge and former Southern University Law Center Chancellor, Honorable Freddie Pitcher, Jr. See a recording of the program here
